Santa Fe Springs Rotary Club Contributes to Local Firefighters Memorial

The firefighters of Santa Fe Springs provide excellent and highly professional service to the community and the country. Whenever they are called, they respond; whether to put out a local fire, provide lifesaving emergency response, assist after the World Trade Center attack on 9/11 in New York, or support fire resources throughout the country as needed. They also give back to the community in myriad ways, contributing their time, funds, and energy to support community events and causes. That’s why the local Rotary Club of Santa Fe Springs felt a desire to respond to the Firefighter Association Local 3507’s plan to build a Fallen Firefighter Memorial to honor four firefighters who have died in the line of duty. They are Earl Tolle, Mike Jones, Dennis Stubblefield, and Armando Mora Jr. The memorial will be installed at the Fire Department’s Headquarters, 11300 Greenstone Ave. A fund- raising campaign is now in progress.

In response, the Rotary Club, which co-sponsored “Breakfast with the Boys”, along with police, fire, and city departments on December 8, 2016 to collect toys for local youth holiday gifts, made a surprise announcement at the event. During a ceremony to welcome participants and acknowledge the generosity of the Santa Fe Springs community with so many wonderful donated toys, Rotary President Brenda Wiewel presented a check in the amount of $500 toward the fund to build the Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial. Firefighters Association President Vic Marin, expressed heartfelt gratitude and then presented her with a beautiful Challenge Coin in acknowledgement. He also came to a Rotary Club meeting as a special guest speaker on January 10, 2017 to share the story of the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial and show the artist renderings. The Memorial Coins are now for sale as a part of the fund-raising effort by the Firefighters Association. (For questions on this project and the fund raising, call 562- 944-9713 or email info@sfsfirefighters.org).

The Rotary Club is proud to work in such a special community and to honor the heroes who have given their lives in service to protect us. Proud Moment in Santa Fe Springs History

On November 1st, club members, Kathie Fink and Andy Enos were presented with the Rotary Leadership Award by Rotary District Governor Ray Sanford. This honor was earned because of their hard work and dedication to the community and club projects over many years. Rotarian Leadership Awards are given to Rotarians who have made significant and lasting contributions to the Santa Fe Springs Rotary Club and to support community, especially the youths. Kathie and Andy have work tirelessly to earn funds by chairing and organizing fund raisers like our Annual Rotary Car Show and the firework stands. Students have earned Rotary Scholarships, Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp funding, SFS Library book donations, Speech Contest and awards and many other benefits that could only be made available because of club projects. Students at the two local high schools have had opportunities to grow and had exposure to local business leaders which helps to create a promising future for our country. This happens through Rotary and the efforts of members like Kathie and Andy.

Another successful Club event – Look forward to the 10th Annual Rotary Car Show in 2017

Our largest fundraiser for the community is the Annual Santa Fe Springs Rotary Car Show.  The Car Show was very well attended thanks to the involvement of The City of Santa Fe Springs and the SFS Fire Department.  All five Santa Fe Springs City Councilmembers were there to support the club and the community. This year’s the 9th Annual Charity Car Show was held in a beautiful setting at the parking lot of the Santa Fe Springs City Hall and US Post Office. Check out the cars and the attendees on the video by pasting this link into your browser – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRf0–rF598&feature=youtu.be&noredirect=1 .  Please support the club and the students and plan to attend this fun event next year.
